Gibson SG Special - Vintage 1963, w/OHSC, gorgeous patina
Oooo boy. We don't see instruments like this too often around here - and a good thing, too. This 1963 Gibson SG Special has me seriously considering selling one of my less-used organs. Here in Very Good+ vintage condition, it definitely shows dings, checking and play/age wear throughout - but NO breaks or repairs, almost completely original (the bridge has been replaced with a modern compensated wrap tail) - even the frets are original. The original P90s pickups sound amazing as you'd expect. Snappy and mean in the bridge, smooth and warm in the neck - all functioning as it should. It was wired out of phase in the middle position when we got it (which was cool) but we opted to switch the magnetic orientation back to original for a fuller middle pickup tone. The pots all appear to be original, but be advised, the soldering is a little ugly inside. Again, all functions properly, but you can tell someone has been in there before who was not exactly afraid to use too much solder. The original tuners function and hold tune decent, though, if it were ours, that would be the first thing we'd swap for some modern equivalents.
This one has gone through our FULL SETUP procedure here by our in-house luthier, Danny Corwin (of Corwin Guitar Company) including spot leveling some high frets, setting proper neck relief, adjusting pickup height, bridge height and intonation. The frets are sparkling and show very little wear. This thing rocks hard and plays like a dream. No bs. Includes the original yellow lined Gibson hardshell case.
