Rickenbacker 4003 - Vintage 1983, possible refin, non-original HSC, w/bridge pickup cover

Behold - straight out of rock legend, the 1983 Rickenbacker 4003. This beauty comes in an exquisite white finish with little to no yellowing, but a good amount of checking/rippling is present. There has been much debate on whether this one is a refinish, with no consensus. But to play it safe, we'll assume that it IS a generally well-done refin. We've photographed where there is some obvious overspray visible on the binding, near the nut, etc. And the fact that it is so dang white. You usually see much more yellowing on this era. Control cavities are the same hue of white, and the serial number marker/sig is still present and matches the jack plate number. The neck relief is adjusted darn near perfect on this one with super comfy action, maybe even a little low for some tastes (about 5/64 across the board). Truss adjustment nuts don't look chewed up, though we did not test the rods themselves since it is adjusted good and these hair pin rods can spell disaster if you get too ambitious. Please note: one of the bridge adjustment "saddle" type screws is stripped on the top, so we had to adjust it by removing the saddle piece and tweaking it from the underside. All electronics appear to be original to the best of our knowledge, though some of the ground solder joints aren't the cleanest we've seen, indicating that they may have been "touched up" at some point. And the front neck-pickup pickguard is likely  non-original as it has a WD Music sticker on the underside. Frets are low but generally level with at least one light dress left in them.

All the above disclaimer aside, this thing PLAYS and sounds frickin' great. Bright and poppy, but not too bright. Punchy as all get out. And just invites you to fly all over the neck - even for me, and I'm not much of a bass player.

Please ask any and all questions up front, as this one is sold AS-IS, no returns. Includes the original bridge pickup cover and a non-original hardshell case.
